Our Residential Homes

Ability Plus operates community-based residential homes designed to offer more than care.

Each home provides a safe, supportive, and family-like environment where individuals are empowered to live with dignity, independence, and purpose.

Our residential homes are thoughtfully designed and certified through the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH), ensuring individuals have meaningful access to community life, personal choice, and integrated living experiences.

Each home enhances quality of life by providing:

  • A loving, compassionate, family-like environment with 24-hour support
  • Individualized supervision and person-centered care consistent with Alabama Medicaid Waiver Services
  • Supportive services that promote independence, confidence, and daily living skills
  • Assistance with social engagement, money management, and domestic skills
  • Opportunities to set, pursue, and achieve personal goals
  • Structured social and recreational activities that encourage community participation
  • Individualized educational and skill-building experiences

To ensure high-quality, personalized support, the number of residents in each home is intentionally limited. This approach supports ADMH requirements for privacy, autonomy, and individualized attention, allowing staff to meet individual needs while maintaining the comfort and familiarity of home.

Person-Centered Support

At Ability Plus, every individual is seen as a whole person. We take pride in supporting meaningful, fulfilling lives grounded in dignity, choice, and opportunity. We consider each resident’s unique strengths, abilities, and physical, psychological, and social background, along with family input, when developing both short-term and long-term goals.

Our standard of care is rooted in respect, empowerment, and inclusion.

Community-Inclusive Living

Ability Plus homes are fully integrated into the community and staffed by trained professionals certified in CPR, first aid, and medication administration. We believe individuals should have meaningful opportunities to engage with their communities in ways that matter to them. Residents are supported in choosing when, how, and where they participate in community life, whether through social activities, employment, faith, recreation, or everyday experiences.

We strive to create environments that:

  • Emphasize ability rather than disability, honoring each person’s unique strengths
  • Encourage growth while respecting individual capabilities and preferences
  • Provide physical and emotional security
  • Foster independence, self-esteem, and meaningful community connection

At Ability Plus, home is more than a place. It is a foundation for a full and meaningful life.
